Du 29 mai au 1 er juin 2008, au pavillion 9C des anciens abatoirs de testaccio Rome, se déroulera la 5 ème édition du LPM – Live Performers Meeting: rencontre internationale de performeurs vidéo live, artistes visuels et rencontre vj, consacré à la performance vidéo en direct, revient avec une nouvelle édition.
L’édition 2007 avec la présence de 295 participants venant d’Algérie, Argentine, Australie, Autriche, Bosnie-Herzégovine, Colombie, Croatie, Danemark, France, Allemagne, Israël, Italie, Lettonie, Macédoine, Mexique, Pays-Bas, Pologne, Portugal, Royaume Unie, République Tchèque, Serbie, Espagne, Turquie et Uruguay. Avec plus de 26 000 visiteurs au cours des quatre jours de la rencontre et à la journée d’inauguration au Palais des expositions de Rome.
Cette édition se déroule dans un nouveau lieu d’exception, le pavillion 9C des anciens abatoirs de Testaccio, un des pavillion historique construit par Giocchino Erosch entre 1888 et 1891: plus de 900 m2 qui s’adapte aux exigence du meeting qui au cours des années s’est enrichie en terme de contenu, demande d’adhésion de la part des artistes participants et de la fréquentation du public.
LPM 2008 propose de nouveau la formule des quatre jours, au cours desquels l’interaction entre plateau les spectateurs et les performances, donneront vie à un événement au caractère unique, avec un programme toujours riche de workshop, showcase, de projets, logiciels et produit d’avant garde.
La vidéo live est naturellement le fil conducteur de ces quatres journés différement caracterisées par des diverses thématiques et des réalités des participants.
DIGITAL FREEDOMS
Le concept et l’émergence de ces rencontres est né au Linux Club autour de la communauté du projet FLxER, logiciel gratuit de mix vidéo et audio, LPM 2008 consacrera une journée entière aux réalités opérantes dans le milieu de la vidéo live, et comment il touche aux thématiques inhérentes à la liberté digitale. Pas seulement Free software, Free hardware, Open content, Open source, Hacking, parmis les participants de workshops, showcases, performances et set vj, mais également Degradarte un workshop, set vj et vidéo performance dégradé, créée par defradate Novalab e Artisopensource, inspiré du filon de recherche esthétique, scientifique et technologique, dedié à la recherche sur les oeuvres d’arte dégradé “selon la norme juridique”.
8 BIT + ELETTROPOP
Les vidéos performances le plus sensibles aux rythmes des différents sous genre de la musique électronique, qui sont les racines communes d’une manière ou d’une autre de tout les participants au meeting, accompagnerons le son de Elettronica 8 bit et de Elettropop: rythme générés de sons nintendo, de logiciels spécifiques, sampler, mini-synthétiseur, effets de synthétiseur vocals, dans une atmosphère de jeu et “ légère” pour amuser et distraire le public.
BREAKBEAT + TECHNO + ELECTRO
Performance vidéo et vj set accompagne le son dense et le beau incalzante? de la musique de club électronique, avec des “images en mouvement” qui suivent et qui interprète le rythme saccadé du breakbeat et de la drum’n’bass rafraichissante de 2 h à 4h du matin, le son rythmé de la techno et de l’éléctro.
VISUAL GENDER
Une journée sera consacrée à la culture Queer conçu par Phag Off qui propose une preview de Queer Jubilee, la synthèse d’un projet qui depuis six ans opère au niveau nationale et européen dans l’ambiance de la culture Queer indépendante ; musique, performance et vidéo Queer, cherche à déstructurer et déraciner les symboles, les stéréotypes et les formes de monismes idéologiques autour des problématiques du genre et la sexualité.
Après le repas, aussi accompagné de vidéo et de musique, se suivront des performances audio vidéo et comme toujours en fin de soirée le vj clash avec les visuels de nombreux vj qui exposerons librement en alternant la console vidéo, au nombreux projecteurs mis à disposition.
LPM 2008 cherche à conserver l’esprit rencontre qui la caractérise depuis sa première édition, se voulant un point de rencontre, de dialogue, et de confrontation entre vj, artistes visuel, vidéo performeur live et passionnés de secteur. Tous les fonds récoltés au LPM sont donc destinés au soutien de la recherche autour du live visuel et au développement des technologies actuelles et innovantes.
Les similitudes idéologiques entre le LPM et le réseau Avit, qui est actif dans la valorisation et la promotion de la culture vj à travers d’événement au niveau mondial, on fait entrer le LPM au sein du réseau Avit l’année dernière. Après les premiers festivals anglais, Avit a promu la création d’un réseau internationaux, afin de stabiliser les collaborations entre l’Allemagne, la France et le LPM en Italie. Un partenariat qui à travers rendu possible par l’arrière-plan culturel commun et craie une forte intimité entre utilisateurs.
LPM n’est pas un festival, c’est une occasion pour se recontrer et donner un assagio? De ce qui est en train de se faire ou encore mieux, ce qui pourrais se faire. C’est pour ces raisons et pour donner la possibilité de présenter les nombreuses performances proposées, que la limite de durée de chaque intervention sera de 30 minute

LPM – Live Performers Meeting: an international meeting of live video performers, visual artists and vjs is back with a new edition, the fifth.
From the 29th of may to the 1th of june 2008, in the padiglione 9C of the Ex Mattatoio (Slaughterhouse) of Testaccio in Rome, there will be workshops, showcases and live-video performances, but most of all, a space created to explore the artform and connect the practitioners making it happen.
The 2007 edition had 295 artists registered from the following countries: France, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Latvia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Poland, United Kingdom, Hungary, Austria, Turkey, Argentina, Portugal, Mexico, Macedonia, Israel, Lithuania, Australia, Croatia, Yugoslavia, Serbia, Algeria. There were more than 26.000 visitors during the 4 days of the meeting and preview at “Palazzo delle Esposizioni”
With more content and participants than any previous edition, a new venue has been found, the very special padiglione 9C of the ex Mattatoio of Testaccio, an ex-slaughterhouse giving more than 900 sq.m and one of the hystorical pavilions built by Gioacchino Ersoch between the 1888 and the 1891.
LPM will again use its 4-day formula, this year building on interaction between the audience and the happenings on stage: this exchange between the actions of the spectators and the “represented” actions will generate a unique event. And of course, the program will be full of workshops and showcases of projects, softwares and brand new products.
LPM as a whole is focused on LIVE VIDEO ART AND PERFORMANCE, and for this edition we have developed four specific themes.
DIGITAL FREEDOMS
At the core of LPM is the ideology of free software for audio/video mixing. Thanks to the community of “FLxER” and the Linux Club in Rome, LPM has been able to flourish and give back to worldwide community of live video performers. This year there will be a whole day dedicated to the realities of live video connected with the concept of digital freedom. Not just Free softwares, Free hardwares, Open contents, Open sources, Hacking, among the protagonists of workshops, showcases, performances and vjsets, but even DegradArte: workshops, vj sets and live performances “degraded”, produced by Degradarte Novalab and ArtisOpenSource. These artists are inspired by the new current of scientific, tecnologic and aesthetic research , dedicated to the study of the “legally degraded artwork”.
8 BIT + ELETTROPOP
A whole audio-visual culture surrounds the 8bit scene; the video performers interested in these most particular sounds and aesthetics will perform with 8-bit – and electropop-muiscians. With beats are generated by nintendo sounds, by samplers or by synthetizers and toys, human voices are effected with vocoders or with various strange filters, we shall see what comes out of the mix. It certainly should be amusing for audience and participants alike.
BREAKBEAT + TECHNO + ELECTRO
Video performances and vj sets are typically found flowing with the intense sounds and the relentless beats of electronic club music. And you’ll find that here too, imagery following and interpreting the rythmn of the freshest Breakbeat and Drum n’bass, and from 2am to 4am going with the pulsating Techno and Electro sounds.
VISUAL GENDERS
A full day of Queer independent culture with the QUEER JUBILEE preview by the Phag Off Collective. This festival within the LPM is a manifestation of a project which is working on a national and international level to experiment with the language of representation in terms of gender politics and sexual orientations with the aim of deconstructing stereotypes and ideological power relationships.
There will be background videos and music for dinner, and after dinner dedicated AV performances and vjsets. As usual, at the end of the evening, open time for VJs will take place: vjs can perform freely, taking advantage of the available video consoles, projectors and monitors.
LPM 2008 maintains the spirit of a meeting, which has been its main characteristic since the first edition. It is conceived to be a place for comparison and exchange of information and ideas between vjs, visual artists, live-video performers and interested people. Experimentation is one of the founding elements of its ideology. LPM is a non-profit organisation where any gained funds are invested back to support the research and development of the live visual field.
Similarity of ideals and common roots has prompted the LPM to become member of the Avit network, whose aim is to improve and promote the culture of veejaying events worldwide. After the first festivals in England, the Avit network expanded worldwide, establishing collaborations as in C23 in Germany (AVIT Berlin) and Vision’r in France (AVIT France) and LPM in Italy. This partnership of “network” and “meeting” is possible thanks to the common cultural background and the strong affinity of spirit and purposes.
LPM is not a festival, it is an opportunity of meeting and of making yourself an idea of what visual-artists are creating or better, what they could create. Therefore, and in order to allow the many interesting artists to perform, the maximum length of a performance is 30 minutes.
